FAQs

Why is water storage so important?

Because water affects everything: hydration, cooking, sanitation - and most emergency food storage requires water to prepare.

Why should I worry about water storage living in Utah?

Utah has great water—so why worry?

Because Utah’s system is reliable day-to-day, but it has two big “high-impact” vulnerabilities:

  1. We depend heavily on snowpack. Utah’s water officials note that about 95% of Utah’s water supply comes from snowpack, so low-snow and hot years can quickly translate into restrictions and supply stress.
  2. A major earthquake is a realistic scenario on the Wasatch Front. Utah’s earthquake program cites a 43% probability of a magnitude 6.75+ earthquake in the next 50 years along the Wasatch Front region.
Salt Lake City has also warned that Wasatch Fault segments cut across many east–west utility lines, including water infrastructure.
And in Utah County, CUWCD’s Alpine Aqueduct resiliency work explicitly calls out seismic events and landslide movement as major risks to a critical pipeline feeding treatment capacity.
How much water should I store?

Many families use 1 gallon per person per day as a baseline, then add extra for cooking, hygiene, and pets. Beready.utah.gov recommends enough water for one-month for your household.

Do I need to refresh the stored water?

Because the system is plumbed in-line, stored water turns over through normal household use, dramatically reducing the manual dump-and-refill routines typical of stagnant barrel storage. Exact turnover depends on household usage and configuration.

Why can’t I just use plastic barrels?

Plastic barrels are better than no water storage, but they are often bulky, inconvenient, and require manual filling, rotation, and maintenance to keep water fresh. Always Ready Water systems are designed differently. Our pressure-rated tanks connect directly to your home’s plumbing, allowing stored water to turn over through normal daily use instead of sitting stagnant for long periods.

What makes your tanks different?

Always Ready Water systems use pressure-rated tanks designed for in-line residential water storage. Unlike most water storage options, these tanks are built to safely handle household water pressure and connect directly to your home’s plumbing. That allows your water to turn over through normal daily use instead of sitting stagnant, creating a cleaner, more practical solution for long-term emergency preparedness.
